It's a conversation starter often used by adults to engage children:
"What will you be when you grow up?"
Read the book "When I Grow Up" (reprinted below) to share some ideas: 1) people grow up; 2) people choose to work at jobs; 3) people with jobs are still themselves. You may also want to use this book to discuss how people can work at more than one job in life: someone who is a plumber, types letters, is a bowler, is a mommy or daddy, an aunt or uncle, and the like.
Say or sing to the Twinkle Twinkle tune:
"When I grow up.
Who will I be besides the person who is ME?
I might bring mail.
I might play drums.
I might drive trucks.
I might grow plums.
I might fight fires.
I might trim trees.
I might type letters.
I might fix knees.
When I grow up, I think I’ll be
a worker who works but I’ll still be ME!"
