As often happens, I was reminded just the other day of how useful a favorite book can be in helping children navigate every day occurrences.
I’d autographed a copy of The Bridge is Up! for a friend who’s a new daddy. He’d given a copy of the book to his little nephew some time back. My friend told how he and his wife now plan to hold their copy of my book dear, in expectation that it will serve as powerfully helpful in their lives as it has proven to be in his nephew’s little family.
This new dad goes on to say that any time his young nephew shows impatience, the parents merely utilize language from The Bridge is Up! to ask, “Hey, what happens when the bridge is up?” To which the little book-lover quotes from my book: “Everyone has to wait!”
A-ha! Just another way to read aloud without a book in hand! And another example of TALKing the language of that book to bring about positive behavior. WOW!
