With practice in playing this game, your child will be learning to make sentence sense while also learning to use the main words in sentences––nouns and verbs. And you two will be having fun, meaningful conversation as you play the game. Plus, it’s a great distractor and time-filler…for both of you! WOW!

Okay, to play the Sentence Sentence Game, you’re going to speak in complete sentences. Every sentence in this game will have a noun and a verb. In fact, with new talkers, your sentences can be just that, a noun and verb. Easy.

Because that’s the game’s goal…to talk in sentences that make sense.

To begin the game, model for your child a simple sentence or two about whatever’s happening in the moment. You might say, “Cats climb,” “People talk,” or “Doors open.” Then invite your child to follow your model and say a sentence like yours, a sentence that makes sense.

You might ask occasionally, “Does that make sense?” or “Does my sentence make sense?” At other times while playing this game, encourage your little conversationalist by modeling more complex sentences: “Hmm, that sentence does make sense! Cats do climb!” And with infants, go ahead and do all the asking and the answering. Those little ears are always tuned in!
